Launched in February 2000 as a tabloid-sized newspaper published twice per month, SD Times is shifting to a monthly publication frequency, and adjusting to a standard magazine-size format printed on a high-quality glossy paper.
BZ Media is also increasing SD Times’ circulation by 8.3% to 65,000. The new frequency, format and circulation of SD Times takes effect as of the January 2011 issue.
Alan Zeichick, Editorial Director of SD Times, said, “When we launched SD Times in February 2000, it was as the first-ever newspaper of record for the software development industry. Being a newspaper meant that we needed to publish often; the twice-monthly frequency was perfect for getting readers the news without overburdening their mailbox.”
Zeichick continued, “Times change. Over the past several years, more and more of our readers have been getting the latest news from the SDTimes.com website, from our weekly News on Monday e-newsletter, SD Times RSS feeds, iPhone/iPad apps, and even from links posted on Twitter and Facebook.”
Ted Bahr, Publishing Director of SD Times, said, “The SDTimes.com website and our weekly e-newsletter have taken over the job of breaking news coverage for our active subscriber base of more than 190,000 software development managers, software architects and project leaders. The news as it happens is published on the website and pushed out instantly via the Internet. That allows our print-based magazine, SD Times, to focus more heavily on more long-range news analysis and feature articles on software development trends."
Development managers need to get the big picture of what's happening and what it means. SD Times has been unique in providing that information over the past 11 years and will continue to do so. There is no change seen in the type of articles being produced by the writers or reporters, or the composition of the SD Times audience.
SD Times is the #1 publication in the software development field, carrying more advertising pages from more companies than any other publication, according to independent ad tracking service IMS: The Auditor. The advertiser media kit for SD Times is available online.
